With Halloween around the corner, it’s time to get prepared now. If you are stuck and can’t think of any creative ideas for costumes, candies and decorations, fear not. There are many great ways that you can find ideas. Here are a few:

1. Go to your neighborhood costume or card store and start to look around. Rather than driving yourself crazy trying to think of the perfect costume, and then trying to find that costume, work the other way around. Let the store dictate what you find and give you ideas.

2. Go for a magazine subscription. A subscription from National Magazine Exchange can offer you loads of ideas for costumes, crafts and more surrounding Halloween. You’ll love having all of the suggestions right in front of you. And – when the next holiday comes around, you’ll already be prepared since you have your magazine arriving at your door.

While most parents know that reading is a very important activity for their children, not all children enjoy reading. This poses a problem as parents put pressure on their children to read, and the children resist and act out in response.

Enjoyment with National Magazine Exchange

One idea for dealing with this resistance is to offer your children easier reading materials. Rather than encouraging them to read an entire book, ask them to select a magazine that they might enjoy. Receiving a magazine subscription from National Magazine Exchange, for instance, will allow your child to feel excited each time that the magazine arrives, while also encouraging reading.

The Magic of NME

The thing that makes magazine subscriptions from NME such great magic is that kids don’t realize that they are doing exactly what you want them to be doing! They are reading – but since the articles are short and engaging, they don’t feel like they are doing a task that has been forced on them.

And this can make all the difference. Change a child’s life with an NME magazine subscription – and enjoy the difference it makes!

One concern that many people have when they start a magazine subscription is that they may not continue wanting that specific magazine for years on end. Children outgrow their magazine subscriptions; adults change their interests.

This is where the National Magazine Exchange has a unique and thoughtful solution. With NME, there is a Reader’s Exchange Program. If you decide that you want to switch magazines, you can do so. Just look through the popular list of all of their magazine offerings and then email them your choices. In your email, you should list the magazines that you want to change and those that you want to receive now.

And that’s it! You should then be ready to receive and enjoy many new magazines. Happy reading with the Reader’s Exchange Program!

Honestly – your magazine recycling can promote and enhance someone else’s literacy. How? Well, whether you’ve purchased your magazines through National Magazine Exchange or through another company, you’ll finish reading and enjoying them at some point. When you do, you can certainly throw them away or recycle them in the recycling bin.

Instead, however, you can promote literacy. Give your old magazines to schools and libraries or to early learning and after-school centers. While the writing level may be too high for these beginning readers, it’s possible that the teachers will pick out certain sentences that the students can succeed in reading. It’s also possible that they will use the pictures and images in your old National Magazine Exchange materials to have the children write stories, create collages and more.

It’s amazing how much one little magazine can give – and give back – with the right creativity.

I often wonder how people learn to cook so well. It’s not inherent that we all know how to cook. How is one to learn to become a good and creative chef? I’ve started asking around to see how my friends learned to cook well and I’ve received a few interesting answers.

Mom – of course, the number one response is that good ol’ mom taught them to cook.

TV – Some of my friends actually said that they learned to cook well from watching cooking channels on TV. Who would have thought?

Magazines – There are oodles of magazines from companies like National Magazine Exchange that can teach you to cook well. Whether they are teaching you which ingredients to purchase, where to get the best deals, or how to combine ingredients for great dishes, my friends say that they’ve learned loads from magazines.

Trial and error – There is always the good old fashioned trial and error. You try out recipes, try to follow them exactly, and then see how you do.

Bon Appetite!
